The Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Koshulynskyi drew attention to the fact that cases of violent treatment of both stray and domestic animals have recently become more frequent in Ukraine. He reminded that the groups of the so-called “dog hunters” have activated through social networks. “The worst thing is that this violent and unacceptable phenomenon is now spread among the youth,” stressed the politician.

R.Koshulynskyi informed that jointly with the people’s deputies from “Svoboda” faction Iryna Farion, Yuriy Mykhalchyshyn, Anatiliy Vitivyi and Andriy Tiahnybok, he has registered the draft Law “On amendments to the Criminal Code of Ukraine and the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Infringements (re responsibility for violent treatment of animals and violation of their handling rules) (Reg. No. 2609) in the Verkhovna Rada.

According to the authors, this bill aims at refining legal mechanisms of protecting animals from violent treatment and observing their handling rules.

“The urgency of adopting this document is vivid. The issue of responsibility for inhuman treatment of defenseless animals should be refined as soon as possible and brought in line with the European standards by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine,” summed the Deputy Chairman of the Parliament.

Ruslan Koshulynskyi called for public animal protection organizations to provide their suggestions regarding improvement of Ukrainian legislation in the sphere of regulating relations between the human being and the animal world.
